Melbourne is a magical city and one of the most popular in Australia. Located on the coast and the capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria, it’s one of the biggest tourist attractions that the country has to offer outside of Sydney. Since it’s located on the coast in middle of Victoria, it’s the prime location to start off a brilliant tour.

Melbourne Attractions

There’s a lot to do in the city of Melbourne and it’s nice to check it out before rushing off to see the rest of Victoria. Once you have landed in the city, get a car hire in Tullamarine Airport and then start the extensive tour. If you are interested in history, be sure to check out the likes of Old Melbourne Gaol where the infamous criminal Ned Kelly was once held. NGV International is the visit to make for those interested in seeing a collection of art from around the globe.

If seeing the creatures of Australia is what seems even more interesting, make way for the Woodlands Historic Park to see those kangaroos up close. There are many places to see and go just in Melbourne. There are world-famous cafes with selections found nowhere else on the globe. The coast hosts several shops and beaches to visit for a relaxing day of sightseeing. There is never a dull moment to be had when taking in the sights of Melbourne, Australia.

Beautiful Victoria

Once the tour of Melbourne has been completed, it’s time to hop into the rental car and take a drive throughout all the rest of Victoria. Drive to the Central Deborah Gold Mine to pan for gold and take a walk through the gold mines whilst wearing a real miner’s hat. Drive along the Great Ocean Road for an amazing scenic drive packed full of the 12 Apostles, waterfalls, and much more.

Visit the Philip Island Nature Parks to see penguins and other wonderful Australian creatures in their natural habitats. If you are wanting to see koalas and kangaroos instead, check out Healesville Sanctuary to see them in their own bushy homes.

Seasonal Fun

Most people visiting for the first time tend to find themselves in Australia during the winter. If this is the case, don’t miss the mountains of Victoria. Drive the rental car up for some ski time and shred some snow. Who knows? Maybe the rental car company being used has an amazing free ski deal going on. It would never hurt to check with them.

Four hours outside of Melbourne is Hotham Alpine Resort on Mount Hotham. It’s perfect for those who want to go skiing and there are plenty of trails for those who would rather hike in the snowy mountains. The peak gives 360 degrees of view of the terrain surrounding the mountain and it’s perfect for amazing photo shoots. For those adventure seekers visiting Victoria, Mt. Hotham is the perfect resort.
